“
Vampire? No, it's so plain!
...
Zombie? Gosh, it’s totally OUT!
...
Werewolve? If it was Jacob I may consider...
...but hey...could anyone give us anything that is not so typical ghost or creature of Halloween this year?”Wait no more, people! Here is a
parade of Thai famous ghosts from horror tales, stories and movies you may never imagine before! Let’s meet our first Halloween queen,
"Nang Nak"!
Nang Nak or
Mae Nak is a ghost, based on a romance/horror tale of
Nak which took place around 1800s, a woman who died while giving birth (along with her baby) but her spirit was still waiting for her husband,
Mak, to come home from army. Mak did not know his wife had died when he came back home and continued living with the ghost of her and baby until he saw her extended her arm to fetch a lime she dropped under the hut so he escaped. Wanna know full story? You can find it
here on Wikipedia.
Cartoon version...
Next....
"Headless Ghost" *Poster of Thai comedy movie "Headless Ghost".*
In Thailand, this is another popular type of ghost. Headless ghost most likely to be people who died from the death penalty (by cutting head) in old time or accidents. Thais always portrait them headless and carrying their own heads around.
Next in row....
"Krasue"!
Krasue is also very famous ghost in Southeast Asia and even Japan. This ghost will be female...and well, the figure above explains it all. LOL. People believe they will appear at nightfall to hunt for food which is...
human entrails, dung and dirty things and will wipe their mouths on clothes people leave hanging outside before go back to their bodies. And before they die, they will transfer their Krasue gene by forcing saliva into their pupils' mouths. You can read entire tale on Wikipedia
here.
I know this is creepy...let's see who's next....
...oh, it's Krasue's soulmate,
"Krahang"!
The similar ghost as Krasue, just he still has his body on and using those things for flying.
Next....is grandma "
Porp!" Porp is famous ghost in folklore tales until this modern day. They are most likely to be old female. The tale says they like to gauge people's entrails while sleeping, like fresh blood and flesh especially chicken and you can notice if anyone was Porp when they always lick their lips hungrily like Death Eaters from Harry Potter.
Eh...maybe Voldermort is related to Porp in Thailand, too?
Okay, if you tried to escape from Porp or any Thai ghost, just hide in a large earthen jar like this...
...well, but I must say, this is the lame hiding place ever because ghost can always find people in there. LOL.
Ahh....we have ghost so we gotta have someone to protect us...Thai voodoo doctor!
And for your information...ghosts are not afraid of Buddhism monks as many people believe...they haunt them too! LOL. But this doctor can deal with it...well, I guess they can deal with it. LOL.
However, there's one ghost nobody could do anything to fend them off...
We call them "
Phee Kanoon"!...
Phee Kanoon or
Jack-fruit Ghost is not really a ghost (Phee = ghost) but it is the name we call those Thai prostitutes (especially the horrible-looking one like in the pic above) who stand under the "Kanoon" or Jack-fruit tree to find clients. If they waited under another tree like coconut tree in my area (hehe) we will call them "
Coconut Ghost"....no offense to them, it is just hilarious but honestly, they are really scary sometimes and it means that area is not safe to stroll...you may get a heart attack to death when encounter with them!
Okay, I hope you enjoy my Thai ghost parade for this year Halloween. Have fun and enjoy the party!
Just remember not to leave home alone....
Muahahahahahahaha.P.S. Thanks pictures from many sources on Google. :D

| Your Witch Name is Cordelia |
Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble. |
| You Are a Witch |
Like a witch, you are often misunderstood and unfairly judged. You are not as sinister as you seem. You are intelligent and spiritual. You feel very connected to the world - both the dark and light sides of things.
You tend to keep to yourself, and because of this people tend to think things about you that aren't true. You would just like to be left alone to do your own thing. You have no intention of harming anyone, even though you could if you wanted to! |
| You Should Be a Clown for Halloween |
You are funny and playful. You enjoy making others laugh, and you'll keep trying new jokes on people until you have them cracking up. When you get dressed up for Halloween, you try all sorts of wacky combinations. You love throwing a couple unexpected props into the mix.
You are super hyper and always "on." Some people find you to be a bit overwhelming. But no mater what, when friends of yours needs a pick-me-up, they always turn to you. You're guaranteed to make them smile. |
| You Are Pumpkin Soup |
You are warm and happy. You feel truly blessed, and you are content with all the little things in your life. You live slowly and deliberately. You take the time to notice every joy and be grateful for every small bit of happiness.
You never let an autumn pass without sitting back and reflecting on how amazing the changing of the seasons is. Every smell, sight, and taste makes you thankful to be alive another year. Life is pretty darn amazing. |
| You Are a Treat |
As a kid, you didn't cause too much trouble, and the adults adored you. Now that you've grown up, not much has changed. You know that a little sugar is the way to get what you want in life, and you are as sweet as they come.
You like to make things better in the world, and you don't mind following rules... no matter how silly they may seem. You are a truly good person, and there's very few of you in the world. Anyone who knows you is blessed! |

Hmmm...there are a few around here. The is a bar that I go to that is haunted and I have had some experiences there. Also there is a story of a rock formation that looks like an old hitching post for horses. It's called The Devil's Hitching Post because there are reports of a man dressed in all black riding a pure black horse through the forests at night.
Your country have more scary halloween than mine...my country is HK ;)
I love Mae Nak. I reviewed a movie a whie back the Ghost of Mae Nak which did a decent job explaining the legend.
